Turkey, Factory Farms as Weapons, Prison Slaughterhouses, Bob Barker, and Seitan Sandwiches Posted November 9, 2004
Since I'll be flying Wednesday and won't be able to podcast, I've got a long Tuesday edition of Erik's Diner to take us into Thursday. I discuss four news stories today: the first on a large turkey recall and the USDA's typical industry-pleasing response; the second about a man apparently using the threat of factory farming to force his town into its changing zoning laws; the third about a large slaughterhouse scheduled to open in an Ohio prison; and finally a happy story about Bob Barker's animal protection endowment to UCLA. After the news, I have audio commentary from a Diner regular, and I end the show by talking about smoothies and a vegan answer to Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.
